What level of swimming is needed for my child to participate on the swim team?
Swimmers need to be at least 4 years old and able to swim the length of the pool (freestyle). If you are unsure of whether your child is ready for the team, evaluations will help determine placement.
How long is a swim meet? Where are swim meets held?
Swim meets are approximately 3-4 hours long. That’s the reality of it. The size of the pool determines the length of the meet. If there are more lanes, the meet typically ends sooner. Meets are fun! Kids love hanging out with other families. Pack a cooler with snacks and drinks, bring card games, travel games, chairs and extra towels!
We have 6 regular dual swim meets in June and July. Traditionally, three of the meets will be home meets held at Antioch, and three swim meets will be away meets held at another pool around Richmond.
What if my swimmer is unable to attend a swim meet?
Sign Up Genius will be available closer to swim season!

Do I need to volunteer to work a swim meet?
Yes! Swim meets are run entirely by parent volunteers. It takes anywhere from 40-70 adults to run a swim meet. Each family should be expected to volunteer in some capacity at each swim meet. We will determine how many volunteer positions you will need to commit to by the first swim meet.
How do I sign up for Volunteer Jobs for the swim meets?
More information will be coming soon!
How often should my child practice?
This is entirely up to you and your swimmer. Coaches recommend at least 3 practices/week. Certainly your child can practice more than that. As with any other activity or sport, your athlete will get out of it what he/she puts into it.
Why can’t my 7 year old swimmer come to practice at the same time as my 11 year old swimmer?
Safety is the #1 answer. Each practice session is designed for a specific age and level of swimmer. We do not allow swimmers to join practices with those in a different age group. The only exception will be from coach recommendations and discussions with parents on a specific child’s ability level.

Do we have to purchase the team suit?
No, it is not required. If you choose not to purchase the team suit for your swimmer, we ask that he/she wear a solid blue or black suit at the meets.
